Made between 1888 and 1900. In 1876 two brothers started their tap and die business and called it Wells Brothers.
In 1888 they moved and incorporated under the name Wells Brothers Co. In 1900 they went their separate ways and the company was changed to F. Each tap and die in this set is etched with Wells Brothers Co. The metal was blued which is sometimes called gun metal. Bluing protected against rust and these taps and dies are in great shape for being over 115 years old.
The set is complete with seven taps and seven dies. Each die cutter is held in the large round housing via a set screw and is thus replaceable. This set comes with the original wood container with great patina and also a 1.5 inch X. 25 inch hole in the bottom, and various scuffs, scratches, and marks.
